“INJURY” Graphic Novel Project
This was a massive undertaking as a my Visual Creative Design thesis, an 82-page illustrated graphic novel detailing the complicated relationship between characters Twig and her adoptive father, Haydis. I love exploring the ways familial relationships can be hard to navigate, let alone without divine intervention. This project was made before I begun my journey specializing in graphic design, and some of the font/text choices reflect that, for sure! I learned so much through this project, and looking back on it now, I would adjust the kerning and tracking of the speech bubbles, as well as my font choice for better legibility.
On an artistic note, I learned a lot regarding character consistency… during my time at Sheridan, I was fascinated by character turnaround sheets and references meant to keep things consistent and recognizable, after this project, I felt a greater sense of understanding for how important that recognizability and consistency was! Despite everything I’ve learned, this project is something I am immensely proud of, and look forward to revisiting in the future!
